Head of Chambers – K M Smoker
Kathleen Smoker was called to the Bar in 1974 and, from 1975 to 2003, practised in general Common Law chambers, her principal areas of expertise being employment and criminal law. From 2003 she has concentrated on private specialist areas of criminal law related to the enforcement of Local Authority and Central Government regulations and added all aspects of licensing to her practice including, inter alia, the changes in liquor and entertainment made in the Licensing Act 2003. She has expanded her employment practice as the law related thereto has moved forward to include discrimination of all types and other changes in the employment field.

Senior Counsel – Richard Jones
Richard Jones is a Chartered Civil Engineer, Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Arbitrators and Accredited Mediator and Adjudicator. Before coming to the Bar he worked for both contractors and consultants in major construction and building projects. Since he commenced practice at the Bar in 1981, he has used his earlier experience to build his practice on cases generally having a technical background. From this base his practice has expanded to all contract and most commercial work, including, property and land cases of all types and he is a specialist in all forms of ADR.

Counsel – Helen Norman
Helen Norman was called to the Bar in 1973. From 1971 to 1976, she worked as an in-house trade marks lawyer for a leading oil company in London. During this time she dealt with a large portfolio of trade mark applications, both in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe, Africa, South America and Asia; and advised on intellectual property licensing agreements, and on the acquisition and disposal of intellectual property rights. Since 1976, she has worked in Higher Education, first at Bristol Polytechnic where she became a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Law, then as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at the University of Bristol. She has taught Intellectual Property since 1981 to a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and post-professional students in Law, Engineering, and Business and Management Studies. She also has extensive experience in providing legal continuing professional development courses in Intellectual Property. She was Deputy Programme Director of the Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice at the University of Bristol from 1991-2009. She is co-author (with Ruth Annand) of Blackstone's Guide to the Trade Marks Act 1994 (OUP, 1994) and of Blackstone's Guide to the Community Trade Mark (OUP, 1998) and author of Intellectual Property Law Directions (OUP, 2011).
