Endorsements
Richard has received a number of compliments in respect of his handling of mediations. One such letter received from a solicitor in February 2008 read:
“I confirm that my clients and I were very happy with the way in which you dealt with the mediation. All the parties agreed on mediation despite the concerns expressed by both sides as to the prospects of success. It was your skill as a mediator that enabled a settlement to be reached. The mediation was conducted from start to finish with the appropriate degree of firmness and encouragement”
Professional Background
Richard is a qualified Mediator, Arbitrator and Barrister. He spent the first half of his working life as a Chartered Civil Engineer, initially with British Rail on design and contract supervision and then joined a contractor as a Contractors Manager in charge of motorway & trunk-road construction. After 3 years he, together with a colleague civil engineer, set up a successful Contracting Company carrying out public works contracts and also specialist building works including the conversion of large houses into high quality apartments in Central London. As the director responsible for “claims” he joined the Institute of Arbitrators and then took his Law Degree.
Since he commenced practice at the bar in 1981, he has used his earlier experience to build his practice on cases generally having a technical background. However, from this base his practice as a barrister has expanded to all types of contract and most commercial work.
